Tuition and Graduate Student Fees Financial AidThe Howard University School of Divinity recognizes that financing your seminary education is a big investment. In addition to Federal financial aid, which is managed by the Howard University Office of Financial Aid, the School of Divinity awards the Dean’s Scholar merit-based scholarship to a limited number of entering students (fall and spring only). Students admitted as full-time students with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale will be considered for the Dean’s Scholar award. The Dean’s Scholar award provides full and partial tuition during the first year of full-time study in the Master of Divinity (M.Div.) or Master of Arts in Religious Studies (M.A.R.S.) degree program. Students are required to achieve a 3.3 cumulative GPA in the first semester in order to maintain the award for the second semester. Dean’s Scholars, who achieve a 3.3 cumulative GPA at the end of the first year of study, will be eligible for continuing scholarships. In order to be considered for the Dean’s Scholar award, the admissions application must be completed by the applicable Priority Application Deadline: March 1 for fall admission and November 1 for spring admission. All continuing students will be considered for Trustee Scholarships and Divinity Research Assistant positions. The Trustee Scholarship provides full or partial tuition to full-time students based on academic standing within the M.Div. or M.A.R.S. degree program. Continuing students may apply for Divinity Research Assistant positions, which provide a stipend. Divinity Research Assistants are assigned to the Dean’s Office, Office of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Student Affairs Office, faculty, and other offices within the School of Divinity. Scholarship awards (Dean’s Scholar, Trustee Scholarships) and Divinity Research Assistant stipends are only awarded for three years of full-time study for MDiv students and two years of full-time study for MARS students. Students are encouraged to pursue outside scholarship resources. The office will work with you to create the best possible financial aid package and payment plan to help you manage your educational costs. Your aid may include low-interest federally funded loans and/or part-time work through the work-study program. Howard University offers several Donor scholarships. Donor scholarships are funds donated to the University from its generous benefactors. These scholarships vary by criteria and award amount. Incoming students who have submitted the FAFSA will be automatically considered for Donor scholarships and do not need to submit an application. Continuing students are notified in the spring semester of the application period for Donor scholarships for the upcoming fall semester. All applicants will be notified by the Office of Financial Aid, via email and BisonWeb, of the status of their application in mid-August. More information about Donor scholarships can be obtained at www.howard.edu/financialaid/donor.htm. The process for applying for financial aid requires time and attention to detail.
